Lafayette native heads into SBC Indoor ranked No. 2 in men’s weight throw
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field standout Dominique Williams became the third athlete in the past four weeks to earn weekly honors when he was named the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Male Field Athlete of the Week, in a release by the league office on Wednesday.
Williams, a Lafayette native and former Lafayette High product, kept up his stellar indoor season by recording a personal-best in the men’s weight throw at the Samford Bulldog Invitational. He posted a mark of 62-0.25 to eclipse his previous best (61-9.75) set at the LSU Bayou Bengal.
Williams, who is ranked No. 2 in the Sun Belt Conference in the men’s weight throw heading into next week’s SBC Indoor Championships, joined Juliette Smith (Jan. 23) and Kimmie Rushford (Jan. 30) in earning SBC weekly honors during the indoor season.
