Track & Field: Several PR’s Set As Ragin’ Cajuns Compete At LSU – Link to 2019 TF Reunion

Three first-place performances for Louisiana in fourth meet of indoor season

BATON ROUGE Dominique Williams shattered his personal-best in the men’s weight throw and earning first-place honors in the process, and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team set several personal- and season-best performances in highlight the LSU Bayou Bengal on Friday at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
 
Stanley Limoh and Key Alfred each claimed first-place honors in their respective events for Louisiana, while the Ragin’ Cajuns produced a pair of 1-2 performances in the 14-team field.
 
Williams led a 1-2 performance for Louisiana in the men’s weight throw after posting a personal-best mark of 61 feet, 9 ¾ inches, shattering his previous best (59-8 ½) set at last year’s Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. Newcomer Graham Sokol earned second-place honors for the Ragin’ Cajuns after posting a throw of 55-2.
 
Alfred led a 1-2 finish in the men’s 800-meters for Louisiana, which claimed each of the three heats in the event, after crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 58.98 seconds. Freshman Solomon Brent, who claimed the second heat, finished second overall in the event with a time of 1:59.99 while Rashid Reese claimed the third heat (2:04.57) and finished 11th overall.
 
Limoh clocked a time of 4:26.47 to claim the mile run for Louisiana, finishing four seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jorge Marinez of Texas Southern.
 
Louisiana placed a pair of athletes in the top-eight in the shot put with Shaquille Singuineau finishing second with a personal-best (54-5 ½) with Zach Lewis finishing fifth (48-6).
 
Rylan Theyard (6-2 ¾) and Damon Guidry (6-2 ¾) finished second and third overall in the men’s high jump for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Kyle Baudoin (16-7 ½) and Matthew Standridge (personal-best 15-1 ¾) finishing third and seventh in the pole vault. Freshman John Joseph set a personal-best in the triple jump (48-6 ¾) to finish fourth overall with Theyard (43-7 ¾) placing seventh.
 
Juliette Smith tied a personal-best in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (8.83) for Louisiana with Kalei Matthews (400-meters, 56.91), Hailey Hesterman (800-meters, 2:23.23), Teresa Bruning (800-meters, 2:23.56) and Erica Stewart (60-meter dash, 7.83) all producing top-six finishes in their respective events.
 
Alexis James (50-3 ½) and Maliya Crouch (50-3 ¼) each set season-bests in the women’s weight throw for the Ragin’ Cajuns while freshman Kaprecia Cowans set a season-best in the women’s long jump (17-6). Frankie Griffin nearly equaled her personal-best in the women’s high jump, clearing the bar at 5-7 ¾, narrowly missing her previous mark (5-8) set at the Samford Invitational.
 
Louisiana added a pair of top-seven finishes in the women’s pole vault with Reagann Leleux (12-4 ½) and Kimmie Rushford (11-10 ½) finishing fourth and seventh. Shalei Matthews claimed fifth-place honors for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the women’s triple jump after posting a mark of 37-7 ¾.
 
Louisiana will return to action on Friday (Feb. 8) when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to compete at the Samford Open. The meet will be the final tuneup for the Ragin’ Cajuns heading into the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Feb. 18-19, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
