Track & Field: Ragin’ Cajuns Wrap Up Successful Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – Nathan Fergusson, Obdarius Ware and Reagann Leleux each produced individual first-place performances while the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team earned a 1-2 finish in the women’s 4×100-meter relay as the Louisiana Classics concluded on Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
Rylan Theyard, John Joseph, Tahj Whitfield and Kennedy Washington helped produce seven of Louisiana’s second-place finishes on the final day in the Ragin’ Cajuns 2021 outdoor opener which featured nine teams including nationally-ranked LSU, Junior College national power Barton County (Kan.) Community College along with in-state programs ULM, New Orleans, McNeese and Nicholls.
Fergusson, who earned a second-place finish in Friday’s men’s 200-meter dash, claimed first-place honors for Louisiana in the men’s 400-meter hurdles after posting a time of 52.79 seconds. Ware claimed the men’s long jump crown at 23 feet, 7 ½ inches while Leleux led Louisiana to a 1-2 finish in the women’s pole vault after clearing the bar at 12-4.
Louisiana’s 4×100-meter relay team of Kennedy London, Johneisha George, Serenity Rogers and Kiana Foster posted a time of 46.10 to claim first-place honors with the Ragin’ Cajuns "B" team of Leleux, Ta’La Spates, Reina Ryan and Kaprecia Cowans earning a second-place finish at 46.69.
Whitfield and Yves Cherubin finished second and third overall in the men’s 110-meter hurdles for Louisiana with Whitfield clocking a time of 14.51 and Cherubin 14.57. Trejun Jones placed third overall in the men’s 100-meter dash (10.42) with Tyrell Hargrove (1:55.44) and Caedmon Kyles (1:56.41) finishing fourth and fifth in the men’s 800-meters.
Theyard cleared 6-5 to finish second overall in the men’s high jump for Louisiana while posting a mark of 49-6 ½ to place second in the triple jump. Joseph, who finished second in the men’s jump (23-5 ¼), was third in the triple jump (49-5) with Josh Mason placing fourth (43-1).
Emoni Coleman (2:15.34) and freshman Tarryn Hill (2:23.08) finished third and eighth overall in the women’s 800-meters for Louisiana while Foster was fourth overall in the women’s 100-meter dash (11.67).
Louisiana placed three runners in the top six in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with Rogers finishing fourth (13.94), Leleux fifth (14.09) and freshman Osayi Omorodion sixth (14.21).
Washington finished second overall in the women’s high jump for Louisiana (5-5 ¼) with Frankie Griffin and Taylor Davis each finishing third (5-3 ¼). Juliette Smith posted a personal-best in the women’s long jump for Louisiana (19-0) with Taylor Walls finishing fifth (18-6 ½). Smith also added a fourth-place finish in the women’s shot put for the Ragin’ Cajuns (39-10) with freshman Ariel Young finishing sixth in the triple jump (36-8 ½).
Chandler Mixon cleared 15-7 ¼ in the men’s pole vault to place second for Louisiana with Nick Russell finishing third (15-7 ¼) and Matthew Standridge fourth (15-1 ½). Jordan Brown added a second-place finish for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the women’s pole vault (11-4 ¼) while Nya Terrell was fifth in the shot put (38-5).
Louisiana will return to action when it will send a select number of athletes to the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays scheduled for March 24-27 in Austin, Texas.
