Track & Field: Mixon’s School-Record Paces Louisiana at Crimson Tide Invitational

Second athlete in Ragin’ Cajuns history to eclipse 7,000-point mark in decathlon

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Chandler Mixon finished second overall and set a new school-record in the men’s decathlon to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team during the second day of the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
 
Freshman Ivana Cecchetti finished 15th overall in her first collegiate heptathlon for Louisiana.
 
The final day of action in the three-day meet begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the field events before running events start at 1 p.m. Live results are available at RaginCajuns.com with a live video stream (beginning on Saturday at 11 a.m.) available at SEC Network Plus and the ESPN� app.
 
Mixon, the first-day leader after five events, finished the 10-event all-around event with 7,146 points and breaking the previous Ragin’ Cajuns record of 7,033 set by Wes Gonzales in 2014. Mixon started the day by claiming the 110-meter hurdles in 14.63 seconds before finishing third in the discus (112-5) with Alabama’s Jacob Spotswood moving into the lead with a winning throw of (129-7).
 
Spotswood built on his lead in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 16-4 ¾, with Mixon finishing second in the event at 16-0 ¾. Mixon closed the gap with a third-place performance in the javelin after a throw of 153-5, but Spotswood would finish third overall in the 1,500-meters (4:51.51) to finish with 7,259 points.
