NEW ORLEANS – After breaking a 28-year-old school record and claiming first-place honors at the Texas Relays, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field member Claire Meyers was selected as the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Meyers set a school record and claimed first-place honors in the women’s javelin at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays after her throw of 163 feet, 9 inches on her second attempt eclipsed the Ragin’ Cajuns school record of 160-1 set by Dorsey Steamer in 1993.

The senior was joined in the top-5 of the event by freshman Maria Bienvenu, who finished fifth overall after her mark of 151-2 was the fourth-best throw in school history.

Meyers’ throw marked the best in the Sun Belt Conference in 2021, was 11th in the NCAA East Region and 23rd nationally.

Louisiana will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete at the Battle on the Bayou at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
