Track & Field: Louisiana’s Foster Claims Sun Belt Track Weekly Honors

Sprinter posted second-fastest time in women’s 100-meter dash in school history

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field sprinter Kiana Foster was one of four athletes honored on Thursday as the freshman was named the Sun Belt Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.
 
Foster earned a pair of first-place finishes for Louisiana, posting marks of 11.23 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 23.73 seconds in the 200 meters while competing at the Southeastern-Conference Tune-Up hosted by Southeastern Louisiana. Teams competing at the Tune-Up included SLU, South Alabama, Central Arkansas, Nicholls and Louisiana.
 
The freshman’s personal best in the 100 meters was the second-fastest time in school history and .06 behind the school-record held by two-time All-American and 1992 Olympian, Twilet Malcolm.
 
Foster, a native of Amite, La., is No. 14 nationally in the 100 meters and No. 9 on the NCAA East Regional Preliminary list. She is ranked No. 42 on the NCAA East Preliminary list in the 200 meters.
 
Seth Waters of Arkansas State (Men’s Track), South Alabama’s Francois Prinsloo (Men’ Field) Autavia Fluker of South Alabama (Women’s Field) joined Foster in claiming SBC weekly honors.
 
Louisiana will return to action May 13-15 when it competes at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Mobile, Ala.
