Track & Field: Foster Dominates As Louisiana Finishes Strong in Birmingham
Louisiana third in men’s, fourth in women’s with solid final day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kiana Foster made it a clean sweep in the sprint events at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns posted a strong finish on both sides as the two-day meet concluded on Tuesday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
On the men’s side, Louisiana third overall with 111 points – equaling its best finish since placing third overall in 2017 while scoring its most points since a 112-point performance at the 2004 SBC Championships in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The women’s team scored 64 of its 65.5 points on the final day to surge up the leaderboard as the Ragin’ Cajuns recorded its best finish since a third-place performance in 2015.
Serenity Rogers (women’s 60-meter hurdles), Brock Appiah (men’s 200-meters), Reagann Leleux (women’s pole vault) and Rylan Theyard (men’s triple jump) all joined Foster as individual champions for Louisiana with Trejun Jones (men’s 60-meters), Leleux (women’s 60-meter hurdles), Nathan Fergusson (men’s 400-meters) and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team all claiming second-place honors.
Foster, who was named the SBC Female Outstanding Performer after scoring 20 points, set a school-record in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.37 seconds. Foster, making her SBC Championships debut after missing last year’s event due to injury, helped Louisiana sweep the 200-meters clocking a time of 23.97 seconds in the women’s race with Brock Appiah claiming the men’s crown with a time of 21.31.
Rogers and Leleux posted a 1-2 finish in the women’s 60-meter hurdles for Louisiana with Rogers posting a winning time of 8.46 with Leleux following at 8.50 and Kennedy London finishing eighth at 8.86. Louisiana received points in the women’s 400-meters as Ta’La Spates finished eighth overall (57.84) while Emoni Coleman placed third overall in the 800-meters (2:13.91).
Three sprinters – Jones, Appiah and Jamhad Booth – posted top-five finishes in the men’s 60-meters as Jones finished second (6.87), Appiah third (6.88) and Booth fifth (6.92). Fergusson placed in two events for the Ragin’ Cajuns as he finished second overall in the 400-meters (47.93) and was eighth in the 200-meters (22.22).
Tyrell Hargrove (1:55.03) and Rashid Reese (1:56.99) finished fifth and seventh respectively in the men’s 800-meters for Louisiana with Yves Cherubin (8.14) and Tahj Whitfield (8.20) finishing third and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Leleux, the SBC Female Top Field Performer, and freshman Jordan Brown each scored points in the women’s pole vault for the Ragin’ Cajuns as Leleux, the 2019 SBC Indoor champion in the event – reclaimed her crown after clearing 13-1 ¾ with Brown finishing sixth at 12-2.
Theyard claimed the men’s triple jump crown when he cleared 50-5 ½ on his final attempt for Louisiana with John Joseph following with a fifth-place finish at 48-1 ¾. Theyard added a fifth-place finish in the high jump for the Ragin’ Cajuns after clearing the bar at 6-8 ¾ with Tyren Hannah earning a fifth-place finish in the men’s shot put (50-7 ½) and Chandler Mixon finishing fourth overall in the men’s heptathlon (5,272 points).
Louisiana earned a silver medal in the men’s 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:16.46 with the women’s team finishing fifth at 3:51.52.
