EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Maria Bienvenu capped off a "movie script" rookie season in the women’s javelin as she finished 12th overall with a school-record throw and led the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team during the second day of the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at Hayward Field.

Bienvenu’s throw of 175 feet, 1 inch on her second attempt earned her second-team All-America honors, eclipsed her previous best (167-10) set at the NCAA East Preliminary on May 27 and edged the previous school-record of 175-0 set in April by teammate Claire Meyers.

The freshman, who capped off her first season of throwing the javelin after a prep basketball career at Natchitoches’ St. Mary’s Catholic, became Louisiana’s first female All-American in the javelin and the first female All-American since Morgann Leleux finished second overall for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the women’s pole vault in 2016.

One day after Cole Courtois and Yves Cherubin each earned honorable mention All-America honors, Louisiana’s women’s 4×100-meter relay team composed of all freshmen – Kennedy LondonTa’La SpatesSerenity Rogers and Kiana Foster – earned honorable mention All-America honors after posting a time of 44.79 seconds to finish 20th overall.
