Softball:No. 13 Ragin’ Cajuns Takes Two to Start Louisiana Classics

Louisiana claims a runaway and close call in extending undefeated start

LAFAYETTE – 13th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball increased its season-opening winning streak to eight games with wins over Jackson State and Austin Peay on the opening day of the 33rd Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.

Louisiana (8-0) got off to a fast start, plating five runs in the first inning, on the way to notching a 9-0 (5 inn.) triumph over Jackson State (0-9).

In the nightcap, the Ragin’ Cajuns received a test from Austin Peay (3-4) after a solo home run forged a tie in the fifth inning. The hosts answered in the bottom half of the inning when Keeli Milligan delivered the game-winning hit in a 2-1 decision.

LEADING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS
Sisters Kourtney Gremillion and Kara Gremillion each delivered a two-run single in providing the bulk of the offense against JSU.

Milligan swiped three stolen bases as she accounted for half of the Ragin’ Cajuns stole base total against the Tigers.

Kandra Lamb tossed two hitless innings, Carrie Boswell struck out four batters in her two innings of work and Alison Deville pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the opening contest.

Casidy Chaumont delivered a two-hit game against Austin Peay which included a leadoff double in the fifth inning which set the stage for Milligan’s heroics.

Summer Ellyson struck out seven, did not issue a walk and yielded only three hits to the Governors. She turned in her fourth complete game of seven innings with less than 100 pitches thrown and improved to 5-0.
