Soccer:Louisiana, McNeese Battle To 1-1 Draw in Soccer FriendlyRagin’ Cajuns officially open 2021 season on Aug. 20 at home against Prairie View
LAKE CHARLES – Hailey Hoffmann scored a goal in the ninth minute while four goalkeepers combined to stop five shots as the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns battled to a 1-1 deadlock against McNeese in an exhibition match for both teams on Friday at Cowgirl Field. Julieta Limardo and Izzy Wheeler each set up Hoffmann’s goal for Louisiana, which officially kicks off its 2021 season next Friday (Aug. 20) at home against Prairie View. Lauryn Starwood and Jordan Higgins, returning to the field for the first time since a season-ending injury suffered prior to the Ragin’ Cajuns match against Arkansas State on Sept. 24, 2020, each stopped a pair of shots for Louisiana while Libby Harper added a save in her debut. With the teams playing three, 30-minute periods, Louisiana took the early lead as Wheeler flicked a pass to Limardo, who took advantage of space upfield and lofted a pass to Hoffmann, who would get the ball from just outside the 18-yard box past a charging McNeese goalkeeper Emma Roccaforte and into the lower right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. McNeese would knot the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute when Anna Watson was fouled inside the 18-yard box and would slip a penalty kick past Higgins into the lower right corner. The Cowgirls outshot Louisiana, 9-7, with the Ragin’ Cajuns getting four attempts on goal. Roccaforte added one save for McNeese while Jackie Kelly stopped a pair of Louisiana attempts.
