Soccer:Bedre, Mathurin Named To All-SBC Women’s Soccer Team

Team leader in scoring, stellar defender earn spots on 22-member squad

NEW ORLEANS – The duo of Karleen Bedre and Ruthny Mathurin each earned postseason honors for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team as they were part of the 2021 All-Sun Belt Conference team released by the league office on Thursday.
 
The 22-member squad was nominated by the league’s women’s soccer sports information directors and selected by the league’s 11 head coaches.
 
Karleen Bedre 

Bedre, a junior from Norco, Calif., was a second-team selection at midfielder after finishing the regular season as Louisiana’s team leader in points (15), assists (5) and game-winning goals (2). The midfielder tied for team-lead in goals scored (5) and scored seven points (2G, 3A) in SBC play.
 
She scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Louisiana’s 2-1 victory over eventual SBC regular-season champion Arkansas State and added a goal in regular-season finale against ULM
 
Bedre added assists in SBC contests against Georgia State and Little Rock and posted a shots on-goal percentage of .588 during the regular season.
 
Mathurin, a second-team selection at defender, finished as the third-leading scorer (2G, 4A) for the Ragin’ Cajuns as a freshman from the defender position. The Gressier, Haiti native and member of the Haitian National Team scored both goals and dished out two of her four assists in SBC play.

Her assists in SBC play each came on corner kicks (vs. Little Rock and Texas State) while she scored goals in SBC matches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
 
Mathurin was named SBC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19 and finished second overall behind Bedre in assists.
 
Louisiana (6-10-2) will open play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Monday, Nov. 1, in Foley, Ala., against either Little Rock or Coastal Carolina.
