Soccer: Mayfield Named Preseason All-SBC; Louisiana Picked Fifth In SBC Poll

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer midfielder Lizzie Mayfield picked up her first honors of the 2021 season when she was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team, the league office announced on Monday.
Louisiana, which will travel to Lake Charles on Friday to face McNeese in an exhibition contest, was picked to finish fifth overall in the SBC Preseason Poll in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches.
Mayfield, a senior, was named to the 11-member team after she finished as the Ragin’ Cajuns leader in points (18), goals (6), assists (6) and shots (50) in during the 2020 season.
A first-team All-SBC selection and the league’s Newcomer of the Year, Mayfield posted a .540 shots on-goal percentage and had five multi-point matches with a goal and assist. She tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead in assists and was tied for third overall in goals scored and points.
Mayfield collected game-winning goals in matches against Abilene Christian (9/4), ULM (10/18) and Nicholls (3/18) and posted a goal and assist in her matches against ACU and South Alabama (9/6).
Louisiana, which finished 10-9-1 overall during the 2020-21 season, will officially open its 2021 campaign on Friday, Aug. 20 at home against Prairie View.
