NEW ORLEANS – After helping lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team to its second straight nine-win season and second consecutive semifinal appearance in the postseason, the junior duo of Lizzie Mayfield and Gwen Mummert were each selected on Tuesday as first-team members on the 2020 All-Sun Belt Conference team that was announced by the league office.

The selection of Mayfield (Atlanta, Ga.) and Mummert (Berlin, Germany) marked the first time since 2013 Louisiana placed two members on the first-team when the duo of Grace Howell-Harries and Yazmin Montoya were honored.

Mayfield, who was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year in voting by the SBC head coaches, led Louisiana in goals scored (5), assists (5) and points (15) while earning first-team honors as a midfielder.

The grad transfer from West Virginia University finished the regular-season ranked in the top-10 nationally in total assists (2nd, 5), total points (3rd, 15), game-winning goals (5th, 2) and total goals (6th, 5). She recorded a goal and an assist in four matches during the season, including in victories over Abilene Christian and South Alabama to begin the 2020 campaign.

Mayfield added a goal and assist in back-to-back road matches at Little Rock and ULM and added a goal in a 2-0 win over Louisiana Tech and had an assist in a 2-0 win at Central Arkansas.

Mummert, a first-team defender in 2019, joined Howell-Harries and Montoya as the lone two-time, first-team selections in school history. Mummert played a key role on a defense that shattered the school record for lowest goals against average (0.84) in school history while helping produce school-records for consecutive wins (6), shutouts (9), consecutive shutouts (6) and minutes without allowing a goal (724).

The leader of Louisiana’s back line played in 1,373 of a possible 1,386 minutes on the pitch during the 2020 season and scored a pair of goals – both game-winners – with an assist.
