LAFAYETTE – With the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer program is helping give back to those in need by participating in the food drive Soccer United Against Hunger which runs until June 30.

The Ragin’ Cajuns is joining the NCAA and Soccer United Against Hunger to help those who have been impacted by COVID-19 by raising funds for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Senior midfielder Kobi McNutt is spearheading the effort for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Joining her in the drive are Ragin’ Cajuns teammates Grace ChampagneJulianne DeBlieuxUna Einarsdottir and Ashley Newland.

Each Tuesday in June, the team will be hosting a food drive at the Ragin’ Cajun Soccer Facility from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The mission of the drive is to help Second Harvest provide food access through a network of 650-plus partner agencies in 23 parishes across South Louisiana. Last year, Second Harvest provided enough food for more than 32 million meals for children, seniors and families in need. In order to fully meet all the needs in South Louisiana, it is estimated that 70 million meals are required each year.

About Soccer United Against Hunger
Soccer United Against Hunger has started this fundraiser to leverage the power of the soccer community in the United States to help with the food shortage crises. 40 million people relied on food banks in the U.S. prior to the pandemic — including more than 11 million children and nearly 5.4 million seniors. Since the pandemic, over 30 million Americans have lost their jobs and many are now relying on food banks. The over 500 NCAA Division I Men and Women’s soccer programs are uniting along with the soccer communities across America to take action against hunger.
