TROY, Ala. – Goals by the freshmen tandem of Hailly Waterhouse and Tatum Beck broke open a scoreless contest in the second half and lifted the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Troy in a Sun Belt Conference match on Friday at the Troy Soccer Complex. Libby Harper stopped a pair of shots in the second half as Louisiana (4-6-0, 1-1-0 SBC) won its second consecutive match while earning its first win in Troy since a 3-2 victory on Sept. 25, 2016. Louisiana, which held a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half, had an opportunity to score in the 15th minute when Karleen Bedre’s attempt was stopped by Troy goalkeeper Lindsey LaRoche. An attempt by Ruthny Mathurin in the 42nd minute and a shot by Waterhouse early in the 45th minute were both stopped by LaRoche, who finished with five saves overall. Early in the 46th minute, Bedre was stopped on an attempt from just inside the 18-yard box before Rachel Sutter’s shot was knocked away in the 59th minute. Louisiana finally broke through in the 67th minute when Waterhouse, who scored her first career goal in last Sunday’s 7-0 win at Alcorn State, took a crossing pass from Izzy Wheeler and flicked a header past LaRoche for a 1-0 lead. Troy (3-5-1, 0-2-0 SBC) missed on an equalizer in the 71st minute when Harper stopped an attempt by Julianne Hester. The Trojans attempted three of their eight shots during the final five-plus minutes of the match, but were off-target on a pair with Harper scooping up Riley Rojahn’s attempt in the 85th minute. Beck sealed the contest for Louisiana early in the 85th minute when she collected a pass from Sutter and scored past LaRoche. Louisiana held a 12-8 advantage in shot attempts with eight shots on-goal. Gabrielle Chartier attempted three shots for Troy with Rojahn attempting two.
