Soccer: Beck, Rodriguez Pace Ragin’ Cajuns Past Little Rock, 3-0Louisiana to wrap up Friends and Family Weekend on Sunday against Texas State
LAFAYETTE – Tatum Beck came off the bench and scored a pair of second-half goals while the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team pitched its fourth shutout of the season after claiming a 3-0 win over Little Rock in a Sun Belt Conference match on Thursday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. Libby Harper stopped three shots and combined with senior Jordan Higgins on the shutout as Louisiana (6-8-1, 3-3-1 Sun Belt) peppered the Little Rock defense placing 10 of its 15 shots on-goal. Little Rock dropped its third straight match to fall to 6-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in SBC play. The Trojans had a quick opportunity to find the net in the first minute when Julia Edholm’s shot was stopped by Harper. Louisiana would score all the goals it would need early in the 21st minute after Alyssa Abbott picked up a ball near midfield, dribbled downfield and sent a pass to Karleen Bedre, whose crossing pass into the box was knocked in by freshman Carol Rodriguez for her first collegiate goal. Beck, who became the first Louisiana freshman to score multiple goals in a game since Bedre scored twice against Georgia Southern in 2019, scored her fourth goal of the season in the 65th minute when she knocked in a corner kick from Ruthny Mathurin to give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later, Beck would notch her second goal of the night and team-high fifth of the season when collected a deflection off a melee in the box and scored past Little Rock goalkeeper Paige Henry. Harper kept Little Rock off the board before being relieved by Higgins in the 76th minute. Beck took five shots for Louisiana – four on-goal – with Savanna Young placing two of her three attempts on-goal. Henry stopped seven shots for the Trojans while Edholm took a team-high four shots.
