Stephen Arthur Killingsworth, known as “Steve”, was born on September 13, 1950, in Clarksville, AR and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Steve graduated from Baker High School, Baker, LA, Class of 1968, and graduated from USL, now UL-Lafayette, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1972 and a master’s degree in 1974, both in mechanical engineering.

While at USL, Steve was a member of the 1968-1972 university track team, excelled in the men’s 4×400-meter relay and men’s mile relay and was named to the Ragin’ Cajuns All-Americans team in the men’s mile relay. To date, he still shares a special bond with members of the 1968 to 1972 track team.

For almost twenty-five years, Steve was an assistant professor in the engineering department at USL and also served for ten years as the director of the Louisiana Productivity Center associated with the university. Although described as very hard and demanding by his students, many have reached out to say his teaching style provided clarity and discipline which followed them throughout their careers.

A talented mechanical engineer, Steve was also a registered professional engineer in the state of Louisiana. He was owner and president of Design Analyst: Engineers & Consultants, Inc. in Lafayette which provided mechanical, structural and forensic services and which he founded in 1977 until his retirement in 2017.

Steve was also a founding member of Faith Community United Methodist Church in Broussard, LA. Active both professionally and civically, he belonged to various engineering clubs and organizations. Never one to meet a stranger, he loved to spend time with family and friends, was always quick to brag on his son, Stephen and was so thankful to have had time to spend with his granddaughter, Eloise.

Steve is survived by his son, Stephen Arthur Killingsworth, Jr. and his wife Samantha, of Baton Rouge; his sister, Peggy Dill and her husband Larry, of Austin, TX; three nieces and two nephews, Lauren, Caroline, Ashley, Christopher and Taylor Dill; his granddaughter, Eloise Killingsworth; his former wife and the mother of his child, Catherine Burleigh Killingsworth of Lafayette, as well as numerous dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Drucilla “Sally” Rogers Killingsworth.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs at Hospice of Acadiana, Senior Helpers, Grace Home Health and Lafayette General Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Steve and his family during this difficult time.
