Obituary: Scott Thomas Dore – Athletic Network & Firefly Marketing (Host)2001-2021 – August 9, 2021

Scott Thomas Dore

November 4, 1975 – August 8, 2021

Scott Thomas Dore
Please scroll below the obituary for the Tribute to Scott by Bill Dalton, Firefly Marketing. The Athletic Network, knowing Scott and working with him for the past 20 years, could not have stated it any better. Firefly Marketing has been our host since the Athletic Network was an idea 20 years ago. Scott is one of the leaders who provided the legs for the concept, and before long the AN walked, then ran – most of it because of Scott and his skills with ideas, programs, computers and people.

A Private Funeral Service will be held in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Scott Thomas Dore, 45, who passed away on August 8, 2021.
Rev. Joseph Campion, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church will conduct the funeral service.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
Scott, a native of New Iberia and resident of Lafayette, is survived by his parents, Thomas "Tommy" and Helen Hebert Dore; sister, Sara Dore Terro (Justin); niece, Eliza Mae Terro; and paternal grandmother, Geraldine "Gerry" Dore. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, five precious Godchildren, and the best friends anyone could ever dream of having.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank Hebert, Lillia Mae Comeaux Hebert, and Marjorie Zimmerman Hebert, paternal grandfather, Lawless Dore, and aunt Georgia Buteaux, who was also like a grandmother to him.
During Scott’s childhood, he enjoyed time with his family, building with Legos, drawing, fishing, and spending time with his Dad in the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and teaching his little sister all of the scouting skills he learned along the way. He received his first computer, a Commodore 64, from his grandparents in the mid 1980s and his love of programming and complete obsession with Apple technology began. Scott was a 1994 graduate of Catholic High School where he was an honor student and manager of the football team. He went on to attend what was then USL, majoring in computer science, and earning his bachelor’s degree in 2000, right as the university became UL Lafayette. Scott then began his lifelong computer programming career at Firefly Digital where he would have soon celebrated his 20-year work anniversary. He adored his work family and his career as a website developer and often used his extensive computer knowledge to help his technologically confused family. Scott knew everything there was to know about every Apple product on the market and had plans to buy a Tesla truck as soon as they hit the market. He was a forever faithful and dedicated UL football fan who loved an afternoon of tailgating with friends before a game and wore red every Friday in support of the Ragin Cajuns. He loved attending Bach Lunch, Downtown Alive, and Festival International, often volunteering his time at Festival with his coworkers. He also greatly enjoyed science fiction movies and TV shows and never missed the chance to watch a NASA rocket launch.
Everyone that knew Scott will remember him for his sharp wit, kind-hearted nature, generous spirit, endless puns, and infectious laugh, not to mention the pranks he would pull on those he loved most, which we are sure will continue as he watches over us trying to fix our computers on our own. He was an incredible son, brother, Funcle (because he put the FUN in being an Uncle to Eliza), godfather, and friend; always the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be missed tremendously by so many.
Pallbearers will be his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Catholic High Endowment Fund, Faith House, or by sponsoring a Scout or STEM student in Scott’s memory.
Personal condolences may be sent to the Dore family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Athletic Network Footnotes by Dr. Ed Dugas.

Tribute sent by Bill Dalton, Firefly Marketing, to the Athletic Network.

Scott Doré

Gentleman, Humorist, and a Great Human Being

Scott Doré left an impression in our hearts & imprints in our group that will remain with us forever.
So many great and accurate words describe him: kind, funny, generous, patient, and many more. This good man who will be so dearly missed was also very good at not taking the spotlight. Looking through years of photos and stories about Scott, I noticed something. He was always there but rarely took center stage. He was content to always kept that sly grin, kind words, and playful spirit ready to go at any time.
Scott was always present for us to answer the tech issue, to share a meal, to solve a problem, or just hang. He found joy in helping and giving. A quality that is too rare these days.
Scott helped me in so many ways. Help me to be a better programmer. Told me when I need to be a better manager. And he always managed to help me finish my terrible jokes no matter how many times I was repeating them. There are too many to go through, but one we loved is this: I would say, “Not sure If I can move this, I have a weak back”. Scott would not miss a beat and make sure everyone (especially the new folks) would hear, “Bill, when did you get that weak back?”. Of course, I would look at him, smile, and say, “oh, about a week back”. The loudest laughter at this would usually come from Scott.
Beyond silly jokes and a love of sushi, he made everyone feel special. He connected with so many fellow employees, clients, and members of the community. And we all loved him back. I just wish we had more time with him.
He talked of love of family, friends, and the balance of work and play. Always making sure he had the priorities and values that he learned from a young age showing as an example to the rest of us. We have his mother Helen, his father Tommy, and his sister Sara to thank for helping shape this man who shared much of his life with us.
Our organization was so blessed. For nearly 20 years we had a true gentleman and angel in our midst. He helped set the culture of honesty, loyalty, and care within our group. Values we will hold dear forever.
We miss you Scott. God bless you and your family.
– Bill Dalton
