Obituary: Anna Lee Deshotels Doolin – Staff 1973-1991 – February 28, 2021

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 1:00 pm at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette for Anna Lee Deshotels Doolin, 85, who passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette. With regards to the most recent mandates and laws of the current pandemic, masks and social distancing are required for gatherings in the funeral home and cemetery. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Saturday, March 6th from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited by Fr. Gilbert Dutel on Saturday, March 6th at 12:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette. Readers for the service are William Leonard Doolin, II, Timothy Richard Doolin and Chad Damien Doolin. Kelleen Bernice Doolin, Alivia Ann Doolin and Isabella Ann Bourque will serve as Gift Bearers. Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Fr. Gilbert Dutel, of Lafayette, will officiate. Anna Lee Deshotels Doolin was born on April 13, 1935, in Ville Platte, LA and was a longtime resident of Acadiana. She was an authentic Cajun lady. Anna graduated from Ville Platte High School, Class of 1952. Shortly after high school, she met and married the love of her life, the late Dr. Richard Francis Doolin. Anna and Richard started their life and family in Lafayette and later moved to Monroe, LA where Anna worked as Administrative Assistant for the Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Northeast Louisiana University. In 1973, Anna and Richard returned to Lafayette with three boys in tow. In Lafayette, Anna served as Administrative Assistant for the Dean of Graduates and later for the Dean of Computer Sciences at the University of LA – Lafayette until her retirement in 1991. After retirement, Anna most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Anna was always a fabulous cook and spoiled her family regularly with the most scrumptious gumbos, fricassees and etouffees imaginable. Bien bon! Anna also greatly enjoyed time spent with friends and co-workers, especially the time shared with her Pokeno group. Most of all, family meant everything to Anna. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and cared deeply for her family. She leaves a legacy of love and faith and will be deeply missed. Anna was always steadfast in her faith and was a founding parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, where she served as Lay Eucharistic Minister and as a member of St. Edmond’s Ladies Altar Society. Anna is survived by her three beloved sons, William Leonard Doolin, II, of Lafayette, Timothy Richard Doolin and his wife Julia Pettiette Doolin, of Shreveport and Chad Damien Doolin, also of Lafayette; one sister, Deloris Rollins, of Lafayette; three sisters-in-law, Alicia Deshotels, of Miami, FL, Ruth Doolin, of Maricopa, AZ and Mary Kosta, of Rochester, NY; nine grandchildren, Oliver Wrye Doolin, Timothy Patrick Doolin, Christopher David Clark, Sean Gregory Doolin, Devin Erin Doolin, Liam Benjamin Doolin, Kelleen Bernice Doolin, Alivia Ann Doolin and Isabella Ann Bourque; seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, who passed away on March 21, 2014; her parents, Joseph Milton and Doris Ortego Deshotels; her brother, James Curtis Deshotels and one grandchild, Kevin Damian Doolin. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Oliver Wrye Doolin, Timothy Patrick Doolin, Sean Gregory Doolin, Devin Erin Doolin and Liam Benjamin Doolin. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette, especially nurses Lois and Wendy, for the loving and compassionate care given to Anna and her family.
