Men’s Tennis: Ragin’ Cajuns Beat Reigning US Open Junior Doubles Champion, Drop Match at Texas 7-0

Box Score

AUSTIN, Texas – The Louisiana Men’s Tennis team claimed a No. 1 doubles victory over one of the reigning US Open Junior Doubles Champions and battled in two hard-fought singles matches against ranked opponents, but ultimately dropped its season-opener to No. 6 Texas on Friday by a final score of 7-0.

Although Louisiana lost the doubles point, Kacper Dworak and Ivailo Keremedchiev had a great showing, winning their match, 6-4, over Siem Woldeab and Eliot Spizzirri. Last year, Spizzirri was crowned the US Open Junior Doubles Champion, while also owing a Top 20 ITF Juniors ranking. Woldead, along with Payton Holden, who did not compete in doubles today, were ranked No. 43 in the 2021 ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings.

In singles, Karlo Kajin had an impressive outing on the day by battling No. 78 Micah Braswell in singles action before eventually falling, 7-5, 6-3, 1-0.

Keremedchiev carried his momentum from doubles into his singles match by taking the No. 120 singles player Eliot Spizzirri deep in the match, but eventually fell, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0.
