Ohio State basketball has landed a commitment from Louisiana transfer guard Cedric Russell, The Columbus Dispatch confirmed Friday.

The news comes after a whirlwind recruitment after the 6-2, 190-pound Russell entered the transfer portal June 30. He told 247Sports earlier this week that he had cut his list to five schools and would also be considering Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Marquette and St. John’s.

He also planned to make an announcement “by the end of the week,” and Friday morning he called Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann and newly hired assistant Tony Skinn to commit to the Buckeyes.

After averaging 17.2 points and being named first-team All-Sun Belt for the Ragin’ Cajuns last year, Russell will be expected to help the Buckeyes compensate for the loss of leading scorer Duane Washington Jr., who decided to remain in the NBA draft.
