Men’s Basketball: Devin Butts, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns basketball steal a game at Texas StateTim Buckley, The Advertiser, Jan. 31, 2021 The Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team used a steal and a layup by guard Devin Butts with 0.4 seconds remaining to beat Texas State, 74-73, in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday in San Marcos, Texas. Senior guard Cedric Russell, who scored a game-high 24 points for UL (13-4, 7-3), nearly scored the winning basket but was called for an offensive foul with 3.4 seconds to go. Texas State’s inbound pass from the baseline slid through Caleb Asberry’s hands, and Butts grabbed the ball, took one dribble and used a high-arching bank shot over Isiah Small’s outstretched arm to give the Cajuns their fifth straight win. Watch how Butts did it: Center Theo Akwuba stole Texas State’s length-of-the-floor inbound pass to seal the win. Butts, a freshman transfer from Mississippi State, scored 18 points. Russell made 6 of 9 3-pointers for the Cajuns, who swept Texas State (11-6, 6-3) in a two-game road set this weekend to move into first place in the Sun Belt West Division.
