Louisiana Volleyball Earns Repeat AVCA Team Academic Award Honors

Ragin’ Cajuns recorded a 3.3-plus team GPA during the 2020-21 academic year

LAFAYETTE – For the second consecutive season, and fifth time in the past 10 seasons, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball program has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the AVCA Team Academic Award. The award recognizes the team for its academic achievements during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Association bestows the honor annually to programs achieving a yearlong grade point average of 3.3 or higher.

The Ragin’ Cajuns registered a 3.339 cumulative GPA during the unprecedented 2020-21 academic year, which extended a streak of consecutive years with 3.0-plus GPA that dates back to the 2017-18 academic year. The team posted a 3.0-plus GPA in both the fall and spring semesters and have now reached the benchmark for five straight semesters (since spring 2019).

Seven team members, as well as graduates Avery Breaux and Hali Wisnoskie, maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the year. An additional four team members, who were enrolled both semesters, posted a 3.0-plus cumulative GPA.

Louisiana is one of eight Sun Belt programs to be recognized with the 2020-21 AVCA Team Academic award. The Ragin’ Cajuns are also one of 243 Division I volleyball programs to receive the honor.

The AVCA Team Academic Award was established in the 1992-93 academic year and honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom. Teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Louisiana Volleyball begins a new era in fall 2021 with head coach Kristi Gray‘s inaugural season marking the first time a new leader is on the sidelines since 2008. The Ragin’ Cajuns (17-7, 11-5 Sun Belt in 2020) seek to build upon the first back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins in Sun Belt Conference play and continue the climb to the top of the league standings.
