Louisiana Volleyball Announces Schedule for 2021 Season

Ragin’ Cajuns set for first fall session under the guidance of Kristi Gray

LAFAYETTE – First-year Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball head coach Kristi Gray announced on Thursday (July 29) the program’s schedule for her debut season leading the program in fall 2021.
 
Louisiana begins a new era during the 2021 season, as Gray’s inaugural season marks the first time a new leader is on the sidelines since 2008. The Ragin’ Cajuns (17-7, 11-5 Sun Belt in 2020) seek to build upon the program’s first-ever, back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins in Sun Belt Conference play and continue the climb to the top of the league standings.
 
Competition begins when the Ragin’ Cajuns travel to face in-state foe Northwestern State in an exhibition match on Aug. 21. One week later regular season play starts Aug. 27-28 in Hattiesburg, Miss., at the Southern Miss Classic beginning with the official season opener vs. Southern Illinois at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 27.
 
Louisiana makes back-to-back trips to the state of Texas in early September, traveling to Nacogdoches, Texas Sept. 3-4 for the SFA Tournament followed by a visit to Edinburg, Texas for the UTRGV Tournament Sept. 9-11.
 
The first home match of Gray’s tenure is slated for Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. with a non-conference contest against Lamar – the first of 10 contests for the Ragin’ Cajuns on their home court at Earl K. Long Gym.
 
Louisiana continues its first homestand of the season, and ushers in Sun Belt Conference play, when Georgia State (Sept. 24) and Georgia Southern (Sept. 25) visit Earl K. Long Gym.
 
October begins with a pair of weekends against Sun Belt West Division foes starting with road matches at UT Arlington (Oct. 1) and Texas State (Oct. 2) followed by meetings with Arkansas State (Oct. 8) and Little Rock (Oct. 9) at Earl K. Long Gym.
 
A midweek road match in Monroe at ULM on Oct. 12 precedes a trip to Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina the weekend of Oct. 15-17 that starts a stretch of four straight matches against SBC East squads.
 
Louisiana hosts South Alabama (Oct. 22) and Troy (Oct. 23) to conclude the stretch of SBC East matchups, then begins the second round of SBC West play Oct. 28-30 on the road in Arkansas.
 
November is highlighted by the season’s final homestand at Earl K. Long Gym that includes the Alumni Weekend match vs. ULM at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6, followed by Senior Weekend matches Nov. 12-13 vs. UT Arlington and Texas State.
 
For the second consecutive year, the Sun Belt Conference Tournament returns to Foley, Ala., with all 12 teams making the trip to the postseason event scheduled for Nov. 18-21.
