LAFAYETTE – Non-conference matches against three teams that reached the NCAA postseason, matches against Houston, Baylor and Rice, along with a new Sun Belt Conference divisional-only home-and-home format highlight the 2020 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer schedule which was released on Tuesday.
Louisiana, which finished 9-8-3 overall in its first season under head coach Lance Key, will open the season at defending Big 12 champion and NCAA Round of 32 participant Oklahoma State on Aug. 20 before wrapping up its initial weekend at Tulsa on Aug. 23.
The Ragin’ Cajuns, who will travel to face LSU in an exhibition match on Aug. 9 before hosting McNeese in a friendly on Aug. 13, will officially open their home schedule on Aug. 30 against defending Southland Conference champion Lamar. Louisiana will also host Houston (Sept. 10) and Southern (Sept. 17) in non-conference play.
Road matches at Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 4), defending SWAC champion Prairie View (Sept. 6), Baylor (Sept. 13) and Rice (Oct. 1) will help prepare Louisiana for its eight-match league schedule that begins on Sept. 20 at Texas State.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sun Belt Conference has split the teams split into East and West Divisions with teams playing home-and-home against divisional opponents. Louisiana and the rest of the West Division programs (Arkansas State, Little Rock, ULM, Texas State) will play eight conference contests while the teams in the East (Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama, Troy) will play 10.
Louisiana will host SBC West Division rivals Arkansas State (Sept. 24) and ULM (Sept. 27) before traveling to face regionally-ranked Rice in Houston. The Ragin’ Cajuns will return to action to host Texas State (Oct. 4) and Little Rock (Oct. 9) before wrapping up the regular-season with matches at ULM (Oct. 18), Little Rock (Oct. 23) and Arkansas State (Oct. 25).
The top four programs from each division will advance to the Sun Belt Championships, scheduled for Nov. 4-8 in Foley, Ala.
