Louisiana Men’™s Basketball Falls on the Road to Indiana

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men’s Basketball played solid all-around defense with 10 recorded steals, but were unable to recover from first-half offensive struggles falling 76-44 to Indiana Sunday night at Assembly Hall.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns dominated the Hoosiers on the offensive glass in the contest with 21 second-chance boards. It marked just the second time since the 2015-16 season that Louisiana had garnered 20 or more.
 
Sophomore Jordan Brown scored 10 points to lead the team’s offensive scoring output for the third time this season. Brown also contributed six rebounds and two assists.
 
Junior Theo Akwuba tallied a team-high 10 rebounds, six of which were offensive, and was the team’s second-leading scorer with nine points.
 
Carencro, La. native Joe Charles scored a career-high seven points in 12 minutes off the bench.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns tried to keep pace early with Brown and Akwuba each finding a bucket to hold the deficit at four with just under three minutes elapsed in the contest.
 
From there, Indiana scored in spurts and strung together a 17-2 run that was ended by a conversion at the foul line by freshman forward Isaiah Richards with just under six minutes remaining in the half.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns seemed to find some offensive rhythm before the break as Charles knocked down a shot from deep and Brown added a layup in addition to a pair of makes at the charity stripe, but Indiana still held a 37-14 advantage as the teams headed into their respective tunnels.
 
Louisiana never backed down in the contest, outscoring Indiana by three during the first four and a half minutes of the second half.
 
The Hoosiers quickly quelled any comeback attempt with an 18-3 run of their own that put the game out of reach.
 
In the final minutes, the Ragin’ Cajuns’ reserves pieced together an 8-0 scoring streak to close the game.
 
Lafayette native Carter Domingue scored his first collegiate points in the rally as he converted two shots at the free-throw line.
 
Louisiana will now travel to Huntington, W. Va. to take on future conference foe Marshall at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be available to be live streamed on ESPN�.
