Louisiana Golf Finishes Tied for Third at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Ragin’ Cajuns post lowest 54-hole score of season, ninth-lowest in school history

HOUSTON – Peter HinnantCharlie Flynn and Hudson Dubinski each recorded top-20 finishes and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team moved up one slot to a tie for third place as the 2021 Bayou City Collegiate Classic wrapped up on Tuesday at Westwood Golf Club.
 
Louisiana, which posted its third consecutive round below par, recorded a team score of 1-under 287 in the final round and finished tied with No. 49-ranked Houston at 13-under 851 in the 54-hole event. The Ragin’ Cajuns 851 marked the lowest 54-hole score of the season and the ninth-lowest in school history.
 
Hinnant recorded a 2-over-par 74 in the final round and finished in a tie for seventh-place in the 96-player field at 5-under 211. Flynn posted the low score in the final round for Louisiana – a 3-under 69 – and concluded the event tied for 11th overall at 3-under 213.
 
Dubinski finished tied for 16th in the field for the Ragin’ Cajuns posting a 1-under 71 in the final round and finishing at 2-under 214 overall. Bjorn Gudjonsson’s even-par 72 in the final round helped him finish tied for 27th overall at even-par 216 while Hunter Hammett shot a 4-over 76 and finished at 6-over 222 overall.
 
Freshman Jake Marler, competing for Louisiana as an individual, posted a final round score of 5-over 77 and finished at 5-over 221 overall.
 
Co-host Sam Houston, paced by individual medalist’s Paul Chaplet’s tournament-record 9-under 63, claimed the team title at 835 with Florida Atlantic (847) finishing second. No. 26-ranked UTSA followed Louisiana and Houston in the field at 854 followed with Abilene Christian (865), No. 42-ranked Arkansas State (866), North Texas (868), Rice (873) and Texas State (875) rounding out the top 10.
 
Chaplet finished with a tournament-record 14-under 202 to claim the individual title by six strokes over FAU’s Sully Zagerman and SHSU teammate William Holcomb.
 
Louisiana will make its final tuneup prior to the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championships later this month when it travels to compete in the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational on April 12-13 at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club in Montgomery, Texas.
