LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Hunter Hammett and Hudson Dubinski each recorded their first top-10 finish at the collegiate level and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns closed out the fall portion of its 2020-21 schedule with a fifth-place performance at the Little Rock Invitational on Tuesday on the Founder’s Course at Chenal Country Club.

Louisiana posted a team score of 3-under-par 285 in the final round and finished at 12-under 852 overall, tying for the ninth-lowest score for a 54-hole event in school history.

"We didn’t have our best effort as a team this week against a field that included six other Sun Belt Conference schools, but we feel that we can compete for a conference championship," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We did have some solid individual performances with Hunter and Hudson each posting career-low scores and finishing in the top-10, along with a top-20 performance by Charlie Flynn.

"Over the course of the fall, we gave all of our guys a chance to compete and we improved as a team each week. Now, it’s time for us to get back to work and prepare hard for the spring season."

Hammett, who finished in a fourth-place tie after setting a 54-hole personal-best at 6-under 210, recorded three birdies over his final seven holes and closed out the tournament with 3-under 69.

Dubinski, who finished in a tie for 10th-place after recording a personal-low, 54-hole score of 3-under 213, rebounded from an early bogey at No. 10 with a birdie on No. 11 before recording an eagle on the par-5, 541-yard No. 16 to eventually finish with a 1-under 71.

Flynn, who finished in a tie for 18th place at 1-under 215 overall, shook off three bogeys on the back nine with a pair of birdies before making the turn and firing a 4-under 32 on the front to finish at 3-under 69 for the day.

Peter Hinnant (69-71-82-222), Bjorn Gudjonsson (77-75-76-228) and Justin Caldwell (77-72-81-230) followed for Louisiana, which finished six strokes behind second-place Arkansas State in the 14-team field.

Host Little Rock claimed the team title after posting a blistering team score of 18-under 270 and erasing a six-shot deficit to the Red Wolves after Monday’s 36 holes. The Trojans finished at 829 overall with Arkansas State (846), UT Arlington (848), ULM (849) and Louisiana rounding out the top five.

Louisiana will now draw its attention to the spring season that begins Feb. 14-16, 2021 at The All-American in Humble, Texas. The Ragin’ Cajuns will then compete at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 22-23 before hosting the 35th annual Louisiana Classics March 15-16 at Oakbourne Country Club.

"We are thankful to both our University and Athletic administration along with the Sun Belt Conference for allowing us to compete this fall during some challenging times due to COVID," Sliman said. "Our team has seen its fair share of adversity the past few months from a global pandemic to weather affecting our state, but I am proud of the way they embraced the challenges and we look forward to competing again in the spring."
