SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Newcomers Jose Dibildox and Eli Ortego each posted top-10 finishes and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team posted the second-lowest score of the day to finish third overall at the 2021 Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course.

Peter Hinnant finished in a tie for 13th overall as Louisiana recorded a final team score of 5-over 293 to finish at 885 for the 54-hole event. Host UTSA captured the team championship after finishing at 868 with New Mexico State (880) finishing second with Louisiana, Texas State (889) and Lamar (891) rounding out the top five.

Dibildox, making his Louisiana debut, carded a final-round score of 2-over-par 74 to finish fifth overall at 2-over 218 for the tournament and two strokes behind co-leaders Michael Rome and Hunter Bott of UTSA. Ortego, a freshman playing in his second collegiate event, posted a 1-under-par 71 to finish at 219 overall and tied for sixth.

"I’m very proud to see the grit of our team in that they did not give up and pushed through and move up the board in the final round," head coach Theo Sliman said. "It was very exciting to see our newcomers fit in with the rest of the lineup and contribute immediately. I have a lot of confidence in our guys in being able to come back with another solid performance.

"This week was a good test for us to build upon what we’ve learned early on and we can apply those lessons beginning next week. We will be in a field with five Sun Belt Conference schools, so it’s imperative that we come back and continue to play solid golf."

Hinnant recorded a final round score of 3-over 75 to finish at 223 with Charlie Flynn (74-82-73-229) finishing tied for 35th and Justin Caldwell (75-79-82-236) 57th.

Louisiana will return to action beginning on Monday when it travels to Gadsden, Ala., to compete at UAB’s Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate at the Robert Trent Jones Silver Lake Golf Course.
