GADSDEN, Ala. – Peter Hinnant surged up the leaderboard on the final day of the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, shooting a 4-under-par 68 and helping the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team climb up three spots to a ninth-place finish on Tuesday at Silver Lakes Golf Course.
Louisiana, which posted a team score of 3-under-par 285 and was one of three teams in the 16-team field to shoot below par in the final round, finished the 54-hole event at 12-over 876. Host UAB – the first-day leader – ran away from the field in the final round recording a 279 on the final day and finish at 837 overall and 23 strokes ahead of second-place Florida Gulf Coast.
Hinnant, who was one of six golfers to post a round in the 60’s on the final day, opened with a 3-under 33 on the back nine and was 1-under 35 on the front to move up 23 spots on the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 12th place at 1-under 215. Charlie Flynn moved up seven spots in the final standings after carding a final round of 1-under 71 and finishing tied for 28th at 2-over 218.
Jose Dibildox shot an even-par 72 in the final round for Louisiana to move up 17 spots and finish at 5-over 221 with freshman Eli Ortego recording an eagle and birdie on his final two holes to finish with a 2-over 74 for the day and 6-over 222 for the tournament. Hudson Dubinski, making his 2021-22 debut, posted a 7-over 79 in the final round and finished at 234.
UAB’s Khavish Varadan posted his third straight round in the 60’s, shooting a 6-under 66 in the final round to finish at 12-under 204 and edging teammate and first-day leader Nick Robillard by one stroke.
Louisiana, playing in its third event in as many weeks, will now return to action on Oct. 17-18 when it participates in Michigan State’s Quail Valley Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla.
