LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Golf Coach Theo Sliman announced the addition of Mason Banger (pronounced BAIN-jur) as an assistant coach. The hiring of Banger, a native of Southampton, England, is subject to approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.

Banger concluded his playing career at Harding University (Ark.) where he was a three-time All-Great American Conference selection and 2018 PING All-Central Region recipient. Banger finished as the school’s all-time leader in stroke average (73.99), round of par or better (27) and career winning percentage (.776).

He earned individual medalist honors three times in his career compiling nine top-5 performances and 14 top-10 finishes for the NCAA Division II Bisons.

"We are extremely excited to have Mason join our men’s golf program," Sliman said. "He is an accomplished player with a strong knowledge of all aspects of the game, from physical fitness to the mental side and everything in between. Mason’s strong passion for coaching and competing, coupled with his class act character, is a recipe for great success. Mason will fit in well in our athletic department and community."

During his final season in 2017-18, Banger posted seven top-10 finishes and posted a school-record low 72.7 scoring average in 33 rounds of play. Banger helped Harding to a pair of appearances at the NCAA Midwest/Central Regionals while qualifying for the 2016 event as an individual.

"I am very excited to be joining coach Theo Sliman and the team this semester," said Banger. "The Ragin’ Cajuns Golf program has a fantastic culture that is built around creating successful athletes on and off the golf course. I will be immersing myself in the south Louisiana culture and contributing to the community as much as possible. The Ragin’ Cajuns Golf program is very capable of becoming one of the best in the country and I am excited to be a part of the that process."
