Golf: Hinnant, Gudjonsson Finish in Top-15 at SBC Golf Championships

Louisiana finishes eighth overall to wrap up 54-hole event

EL DORADO, Ark. – Peter Hinnant recorded a 2-over-par 74 to post his eighth career top-20 finish while Bjorn Gudjonsson carded a 3-over 75 for his third career top-20 performance to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team during the final day of stroke play at the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championships at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
Louisiana posted its second consecutive team score of 21-over 309 on the extremely rugged course to finish in eighth place at 930. No. 43-ranked and top-seeded Georgia Southern (899), Little Rock (910), ULM (914), and Coastal Carolina (916) advanced to Wednesday’s Match Play Semifinal with the overall winner claiming the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
Hinnant, who opened the back nine with back-to-back birdies, posted his third straight top-20 performance and fifth of the season after finishing in a tie for seventh place for Louisiana at 10-over 226.
Gudjonsson, who played the back nine at even-par 36, earned his second top-20 performance of the season for the Ragin’ Cajuns after finishing 13th overall at 12-over 228. Hudson Dubinski posted a 10-over 82 for Louisiana to finish tied for 27th at 235 with Charlie Flynn (243) and Hunter Hammett (246) next.
Georgia Southern, paced by a 1-2 finish from Ben Carr and Luke Dasher, posted the day’s lone score below 300 at 10-over 298 to advance to Wednesday’s Match Play round. Carr claimed individual medalist honors for the 54-hole tournament finishing at 3-over 219 and four strokes ahead of three golfers.
Arkansas State was fifth in the 12-team field at 917 followed by Appalachian State (918), UT Arlington (921) and Louisiana (930) with Georgia State (945) and Texas State (945) rounding out the top-10.
