LAREDO, Texas – Charlie Flynn kept up his strong 2020-21 season on the golf course as posted an even-par round of 72 and finished fourth overall to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team at the Border Olympics, which concluded on Tuesday at the Laredo Country Club.

Flynn, who opened the 54-hole tournament on Monday with a 1-under 71, carded an identical 71 to cap Louisiana’s second round before finishing at 2-under 214 and two strokes behind Texas A&M’s Dan Erickson and Texas’ Hunter Ostrom. The top-5 performance for the Alexandria, La., native was the first of career for Louisiana and his third top-20 finish in three events during the 2020-21 season.

"Extremely proud of Charlie’s consistency and performance this week," head coach Theo Sliman said. "If not for a few dropped shots on the par-fives today, we could have seen him in the winner’s circle, a position that we should see him in the near future.

"As for a team, this was not the result we expected. For us to accomplish our goals this spring, we need more competitiveness and a collective effort from the entire team. We look forward to a couple of weeks of preparation before seeing some of these same teams again when we host the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club."

Louisiana finished 13th overall in the 18-team field after posting a team score of 303 in the final round to finish at 904 overall. Texas A&M claimed the team title at 862 with Texas (870), host Houston (873), Sam Houston (885) and ULM (887) closing out the top five.

Peter Hinnant posted a round of 5-over 77 to finish at 225 in the event for Louisiana with Hunter Hammett (234), Jake Marler (236) and Cole Kendrick (239) following.

Louisiana will return home to host the annual Louisiana Classics set for March 15-16 at Oakbourne Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole event will mark the return to college golf to Oakbourne for the first time in two years after the 2020 tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
