LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns golfers Charlie Flynn and Peter Hinnant were two of four players to advance in qualifying for this summer’s U.S. Open after the pair each posted scores of 4-under-par 68 on Thursday at Oakbourne Country Club.
The duo advanced in qualifying that is scheduled for May 24 and June 7 in selected sites. The 121st U.S. Open will be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Calif., from June 17-20.
Flynn overcame a double bogey at the No. 5 hole with four straight birdies to finish at 3-under 33 on the front nine. The sophomore added birdies on the back nine at No. 10 and 14 and finished in a three-way tie for second in the 64-player field.
Hinnant opened with four birdies on his first seven holes before posting consecutive bogeys to finish at 2-under 34 on the front nine. The sophomore responded with birdies on a pair of par-5 holes – No. 11 and 13 – to finish tied with Flynn and Brandon Pierce for second.
