Former Basketball: “Operation Transport Hope” for Dan Gay & Family (PLEASE HELP) by Glenda Wiley

Plea for Assistance For Dan Gay (USL Basketball 1979-82) By Glenda Wiley (Men’s Basketball Secretary 1981-87)

Email received from Glenda on Oct. 22, 2018 with donation information added  (below) on Oct. 30.

Glenda may be contacted at (210) 314-7468 or grhees25@yahoo.com

Hurricane Michael has severely impacted the family of one of our former Basketball Players.  From the excitement of blocked shots and slam dunks, Dan Gay thrilled us for 4 years in Blackham Coliseum.  For almost 2 weeks, he has had several dozen of his family members in hard hit Panama City, FL living without electricity and many of them have lost their homes.  Tragedy struck again October 20, just 10 days after Michael.  The central home that was running on generators and kept his family fed and many of them housed, caught fire and burned completely.  Thankfully Dan has not lost any family members, but several were hospitalized.

Because this is a very long term recovery effort, we are asking for help.  One of Dan’s cousins has a place where a 5th Wheel or Travel Trailer can be parked.  This would provide permanent housing and would eliminate getting turned away at hotels because there are no more rooms available.  Former Basketball Secretary, Glenda Wiley, helped in providing a Travel Trailer last year to a victim of Hurricane Harvey and she is organizing this effort for one of our own.  She is asking for 100 Ragin’ Cajun Basketball Fans to each donate $100.00.

Any donation is extremely appreciated during this difficult time.  This will provide funding to purchase and "Transport Hope" to the family of someone who gave so many memorable moments to us…..Dan Gay  #44.

P.S.  I wanted to let you know, too, that we have secured 100 good, hot meals for his family every day!!  Plus, blow up mattresses and bedding.
