Former Baseball:Rockies acquire Jonathan Lucroy in trade with Rangers

The Colorado Rockies, who are trying to end a seven-season postseason drought, acquired veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

In exchange, the Rangers got a player to be named later and cash. 

Lucroy, 31, played catcher for the Ragin’ Cajuns between 2005 and 2007 before being drafted by Milwaukee in June 2007. He will likely taking over the catching duties for Tony Wolters and Ryan Hanigan in Colorado.

Despite a career low in batting average (.242) and a .338 slugging percentage, the two-time All-Star is an upgrade to the receiving core.  

Lucroy was traded almost a year ago today at the deadline by the Brewers. He had an immediate impact with the Rangers after the exchange — batting .276 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs in 47 games.

In eight seasons, he is a career .280 hitter with 94 home runs, including 24 homers in 2016.

The Rockies also acquired veteran All-Star reliever Pat Neshek in a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies last week. At 60-45, they are tied with the third-best record in the National League and tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the No. 1 wild card spot.
