Football: Sale, Looney Named FootballScoop Offensive Line Coaches of the Year

Offensive line helped Louisiana to 10-1 overall record during the 2020 season

LAFAYETTE – Offensive Coordinator Rob Sale and the late D.J. Looney have been named the FootballScoop 2020 Offensive Line Coaches of the Year, the organization announced on Monday morning.

The offensive line had a spectacular season with four players earning Sun Belt All-Conference honors and the whole unit being named Joe Moore Award Semifinalists.

Louisiana’s O-Line finished the year ranked fifth nationally and first in the Sun Belt Conference in tackles-for-loss allowed (3.64) and seventh nationally and first in the league in sacks allowed (0.82).

Additionally, the line opened up Louisiana’s rushing attack, which ranked 21st in the nation with 213.0 yards per contest.

The interior of the line was a constant all year, with Ken Marks (LG), Shane Vallot (C) and O’Cyrus Torrence (RG) not missing a game in 2020. Max Mitchell started in every game in which he appeared, sharing time at both tackle positions, while Zach Robertson and Carlos Rubio shared time on the outside.

Torrence and Mitchell both picked up Second Team All-Conference honors at the conclusion of the season, while Marks and Vallot garnering Third Team honors.
