Darren Walker CSVA award

LAFAYETTE – The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Darren Walker, Assistant Director of Athletics for Video Operations for Louisiana Athletics, the 2018-19 Sun Belt Conference Video Coordinator of the Year.

Walker was selected by a majority vote of his peers in the Sun Belt to receive the Conference Video Coordinator of the Year honor. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 15, in Anaheim, California.

The Bob Matey award is presented to the video coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance, and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary video coordinator from Texas A&M.

Walker is in his 19th year of directing video operations for the Ragin’ Cajuns’ football program. A 1996 graduate of the University, Walker was hired in 2001 and is the longest tenured video coordinator in the Sun Belt Conference. Walker oversees a staff of 10 student workers and has worn many hats during his tenure.

Primarily, Walker oversees the editing and production of Ragin’ Cajuns football workout, practice and game video, as well as the football coaching staff’s computer and video technologies at the Donald & Janice Mosing Student-Athlete Performance Center. In addition to practice video, his staff also handles clock operation and the music and crowd noise played at practice.

During Louisiana Football games, Walker can be found on the sidelines capturing video that is used in the production of weekly motivational videos for the team, recruiting videos and highlight packages for "Inside Louisiana Football", the weekly Ragin’ Cajuns football coach’s show that airs nationally on CST.

Walker also hosts the program, as well as the baseball and softball coaches’ shows. He can also be found at other sports acquiring video for social media and recruiting purposes.

A native of Chalmette, Louisiana, Walker spent five years at KATC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Lafayette, where he was a videographer, sports producer, sports reporter, sports anchor and news reporter. Walker earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts – Mass Communication from the University in 1996.

He is married to the former Michelle Ciaccio and they are the parents of two children, Hannah and Vance.
