NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns cross country runner Damian O’Boyle picked up his first honor of the 2020 season on Thursday when he was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Runner of the Week, the league office announced.

O’Boyle, a native of Galway, Ireland, earned his first victory in a Ragin’ Cajuns uniform after claiming the 4-mile run at the ULM Warhawk Invitational last Friday. He covered the course in 20:33 to win the individual title by six seconds over Louisiana Tech’s Conner Killian.

In a pair of events this season, the grad transfer has posted top-10 finishes in both meets for the Ragin’ Cajuns, debuting with a seventh-place performance at last month’s Azalea City Classic.

Louisiana will compete in its third event of the season on Oct. 17 when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., for the Little Rock Open. The Ragin’ Cajuns will then compete on Oct. 31 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Mobile, Ala., at the Old Brookley Golf Course.
