Baseball Position Preview: Catchers
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball is set to begin its 2021 season on Friday, Feb. 19, at Tulane. Leading up to Opening Day, RaginCajuns.com will preview each position group for this year’s team, beginning with the catchers.
#11 Julian Brock – Freshman (2nd Year) – 6-2/205 – Fulshear, Texas
A familiar face to the catching group, Julian Brock played in 11 games, starting nine, during his true freshman year. Already tabbed as the eighth-best 2022 MLB Draft prospect in the Sun Belt Conference by D1Baseball.com, the Fulshear, Texas, native earned five starts at first base, three at DH and one behind the plate in 2020. Brock hit for a .243 average, which included one three-hit game against Virginia Tech (2/23/20) and a four-game hitting streak where he went 6-for-15 (.400). Brock’s best game in 2020 came against Sam Houston State (3/1/20), when he went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and the game-winning RBI.
#6 Nick Hagedorn – Junior – 5-10/221 – Sedalia, Mo.
Like Brock, Nick Hagedorn was also on the 2020 Louisiana Baseball team. The powerful, left-handed batter earned 10 starts and saw action in all 17 games last year. Hagedorn slashed .225/.273/.300 over the course of the short campaign and ended the season on a four-game hitting streak where he went 5-for-14 (.357) with two doubles, four RBI and a walk. Prior to getting to Louisiana, Hagedorn had a tremendous career at Jefferson College, where he hit .337 with a .438 OBP and a whopping .633 slugging percentage during his sophomore campaign.
#13 Drake Osborn – Senior – 5-11/195 – Sandia, Texas
A Buster Posey Award Watch List (2019) member and Third Team All-Southland Conference member (2018) at Texas A&M-CC, Osborn brings the most experience to the diamond out of the catchers. In 89 starts and 112 games played behind the dish at Texas A&M-CC, Osborn hit a career .264/.328/.390 with seven home runs, 22 doubles and 60 RBI. The Sandia, Texas, native started in 13 games for the Islanders before the 2020 season was cut short. His best year at the plate was in 2018 when he hit .293/.345/.488. During that season, Osborn slugged .510 during Southland Conference play which led the conference among catchers.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and social distanced seating, the capacity for Russo Park will be extremely limited (this is subject to change with guidance from state and local officials regarding social distancing and venue capacity). Season Ticket Holders will not be able to sit in their normal season ticket locations. Because of this, we will be re-seating Season Ticket Holders for the 2021 Baseball season in priority order by RCAF Investor Rank.

Consistent with other ticketed sport season ticket policies, the Department of Athletics does not offer refunds on season tickets for canceled games due to weather, pandemics, or an event beyond reasonable control of the University, unless it is a fully canceled season.
