LAFAYETTE — Steven Sensley, Zach Lafleur and Jevin Huval have stepped onto the Division 1 collegiate stage this season from a nationally recognized LSU-Eunice junior college program and provided late season assistance for the UL baseball team.

The three players who played key roles in two separate Bengals’ national championships took some time to get acquainted with college baseball at a higher level, says Cajuns’ baseball coach Tony Robichaux.

Lately, however, the trio have given the Cajuns help as they push for a higher seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, scheduled for Georgia Southern in two weeks.

Sensely, who came to the Cajuns after being drafted twice by different major league teams, now leads the team in hitting (.328) with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs.

At LSUE in 2015 — his only season there — Sensley, who played mainly first base for the Bengals, hit a LSUE-record 21 home runs and was named a Division II first-team junior college All-American.

Lafleur, a centerfielder who played at Teurlings Catholic, led the nation in stolen bases in his senior year at LSUE (53) and scored 81 runs as the Bengals’ leadoff hitter on the 2015 national championship team.
