Baseball: Cajuns southpaw Brock Batty enters NCAA transfer portalTim Buckley, The Advertiser, May 14, 2020 UL pitcher Brock Batty has entered the NCAA transfer portal, saying he has “decided to explore my options.” The lefty said in a tweet posted Thursday that he “threw from a lower arm slot this season and am converting back to my natural slot.” In a lengthy announcement posted earlier this week, Brooks also thanked Ragin’ Cajuns fans “for making Lafayette feel like home these last 3 years,” thanked late UL coach Tony Robichaux and current Cajuns coach Matt Deggs, and said “the friends and memories I have made will be with me forever.” “I wish nothing but the best for all of the coaches and players,” he said, in part. “I had a blast wearing Louisiana across my chest and pitching in front of such a great fan base. He had a 6.17 ERA over 23 appearances as a freshman and a 7.98 ERA over nine appearances as a sophomore playing for Robichaux in 2018 and 2019, and had pitched just 4.1 innings over four appearances for Deggs with a 20.77 ERA before the 2020 season was cut short due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. RIEPL HONOREDFranziska Riepl, a member of the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team, was honored Friday as the Outstanding Graduate for UL’s B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration. An economics major with a minor in political science, she earned a 4.0 grade point average. VOLLEYBALL TEAM RATESCoach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot’s UL volleyball team has finished in Top 10 percent of its sport based on the most recent Academic Progress Rates for the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years as compiled by the NCAA, according to a release from the school. UL PICKS UP LONG-SNAPPERAccording to a Livingston Parish News report, the UL football team this week picked up a commitment from walk-on long-snapper Alex Morrison, a Denham Springs High product. Elsewhere, former UL defensive lineman Garrald McDowell signed a free agent contract earlier this year with Calgary of the CFL and remains on the Stampeders’ roster. Related: Former Arizona State walk-on reuniting with Napier at UL More: Nephew of Saints Hall-of-Famer commits to the Cajuns NEW LOGOThe Sun Belt Conference on Thursday released a new set of logos that it said was developed by the Brian Gundell Graphic Design Co. “after a seven-month process to create a strong, cohesive set of marks to modernize the look while staying true to the conference’s mission.” The new branding is based on a combination of the league’s name connected to a sunrise graphic bursting through the letters of “Sun Belt” and “SBC.” Primary colors are navy and blue, with additional logos exclusive to member schools tied to the individual colors of those programs.
