Baseball: Angel and Durke Earn Perfectgame Preseason Honors

Angel lands Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference nod, Hayden Durke labeled as Freshman of the Year

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball has continued its trend of preseason honors after Conor Angel was selected as a Perfectgame.com Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team member and Hayden Durke was tabbed as the organization’s Freshman of the Year.

The site also rated four Ragin’ Cajuns as top draft prospects within the conference.

Angel, the 2020 opening night starter, compiled a 1-2 record with a 3.74 ERA, while striking out 26 batters in 21.2 innings pitched last year. Angel highlights a crop of Ragin’ Cajuns projected to be selected in the 2021 Draft.

Durke picked up his second Sun Belt Conference Preseason Freshman of the Year honor, the first coming from D1Baseball. The Abbeville, Louisiana, native came to Louisiana as a highly regarded prospect.

Similar to the D1Baseball rankings, Perfectgame also rated the best draft prospects in each upcoming draft class, with Durke, Angel, Connor Cooke and Julian Brock all making appearances on these lists.
