Athletiics: NIL Guidelines for Student-Athletics in University of Louisiana System

As of Thursday, July 1, Louisiana state law and the University of Louisiana System’s Intercollegiate Athlete NIL Policy allow a student-athlete to earn compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL).

An institutional staff member may not be involved in providing or arranging compensation for a student-athlete.

Some examples of how student-athletes can benefit from their name, image, and likeness for compensation include:

  • promoting their own business;

  • promoting a corporate entity (e.g., brand ambassador, social media influencer);

  • establishing their own camps/clinics;

  • making an appearance; and

  • attending autograph signings.

UL Lafayette student-athletes are required to submit the "Name, Image, and Likeness Approval" form prior to engaging in any NIL activities.

The University has guidelines for using its trademarks, branding, or identifying markers. Learn more and submit the Name, Image & Likeness Trademark Use Request Form on the Office of Communications and Marketing website. Email branding and licensing questions to wearred@louisiana.edu
