Athlete Insider: Kentrell Garnett’™s Trip to Belize

 Kentrell Garnett

BELIZE – Louisiana Men’s Basketball freshman Kentrell Garnett recently returned from an 11-day missions trip to Belize alongside the athletics-missions organization Sports Reach.

Although the trip was altered due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kentrell and the other participating athletes were able to build connections with the locals through basketball.

Below is a first-hand account of the trip’s events provided by the second-year guard.

"In the first few days of Belize, we found out that most of our games were canceled because of COVID restrictions. However, we still managed to schedule games thanks to the grace of God. While in Belize for the first days, we went out to visit local gyms to just interact with the players there. The following days we were able to schedule a scrimmage with some of the locals. After the games, we shared a testimony and told them about the Word of God. Being in Belize makes you realize how much we take for granted in the United States. The biggest thing I learned is that we must do everything with a purpose."

Sports Reach is a non-profit providing opportunities for athletes, coaches and fans to reach the world through sports. We do this through local and international trips as well as teams in the United States. With a 33-year history serving unique areas of the world, Sports Reach has developed a reputation that gives our team access into various countries and prisons. By using the platform of sports, we share our hope in Christ with people around the world.
