1989 Ragin’ Cajun Football Team Honored at Tulane Game

Announcement also Posted by Troy Wingerter on his Facebook page. Troy is at Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Football.

Fellow Ragin Cajun Gridiron Alumni,

Next weekend, we will be celebrating our annual Grid Iron Alumni weekend while we battle the Tulane Green Wave. It is a weekend where we celebrate those that have donned the Vermilion and White on Cajun Field or McNaspy Stadium. Each year we pick a class to focus on and showcase. This year we will honor the 7-4 1989 Ragin Cajun Football Team. As an independent the Cajuns finished ranked ahead of South Carolina and Virginia Tech among Independent schools at #9. 1989 was the last year of Brian Mitchell in a Ragin Cajun uniform and was the year that he became the first player in NCAA history to throw for more than 5,000 yards and rush for more than 3000 yards in a career. Please consider joining us for the festivities.

The weekend will begin with a reception at Club 337 in the Doubletree Hotel starting at 6:00 pm on Friday 9/20/24. Coach Des and many of the staff will be at the event and will say a few words around 7:00 pm. I will be handing out wristbands for all gridiron alumni to have pre and post game access to the field. Please RSVP through the link so that we can get a good count. The team will be going through their usual Friday night routine and returning around 8:00 pm after watching the Lady Cajuns Volleyball Team on campus.

All gridiron that RSVP through the link that I can share with you will receive 2 tickets to the game. If you did not get my GIA email please send me a direct message and I will send you the link With limited seating its going to be tight and is one of the hottest tickets in town. There will also be a tailgate for all Gridiron Members down the 3rd base line in Russo Park. Some food will be provided but the early game means it’s BYOB (Bring your own Boudin) The wristband that will handed out, will get you access to the recognition on the field for all gridiron in attendance during the 2 minute timeout in the 2nd quarter.

As we get older and we share our stories with friends and loved ones about our time here as Ragin Cajuns… its events like these that give you new stories that you may have conveniently forgotten. Don’t miss this chance to be with those that knew. Send me a personal message for the RSVP link.
