Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Ragin’ Cajuns Fall Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the rain-shortened Ragin’ Cajuns Fall Classic this weekend at Cajun Courts.
 
"I was proud of the effort the girls put forth this weekend," head coach Greg Harkins said. "The results weren’t what we had hoped for, but it gives us a good idea of where we are this fall. Our goal is to play our best tennis in late March through April.  We had a tremendous showing from the teams who came to town this weekend, and were impressed with the level of play."
 
Juliette Clement and Julie Cremers each notched a singles and a doubles win over the weekend. Clement bested Kateryna Lapayeva of Lamar, 6-1, 6-3, in flight four, while Cremers defeated Nadiya Kulibaba of Lamar, 7-5, 6-0, in flight five.
 
In doubles the pair teamed up to win an 8-5 decision over Grace Nolan/Anna Ruis of UNO.
 
"The team is working hard and doing what we ask of them," Harkins mentioned. "We make sure that they understand the bigger picture during the fall season which is to train as hard as possible mentally and physically and continue to improve on our weak and strong areas. We are working to be competitive consistently week in and week out putting us in a good position to win the tough matches. Our season is a marathon, not a sprint."
 
Nicole Breaux also picked up a singles win in flight two defeating Grace Nolan of UNO, 6-0, 6-4.
 
"Thanks again to all the teams, staff, fans and family who came out to the tournament," Harkins added. "Our only regret is that we didn’t get to finish play due to weather."
