Women’s Tennis: Way Named Sun Belt Conference Player Of The Week

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis player Alexandra Way was named the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday following her performance on the court during the past week.

Way, a senior from Adelaide, Australia, went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play last week in helping Louisiana (8-8) claim a pair of non-conference matches.

She opened the week with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Matea Zemunik of Incarnate Word on Friday, helping the Ragin’ Cajuns post a 4-1 victory. Way came back on Senior Day on Saturday, clinching a 4-0 victory over Prairie View with a 6-1, 6-4 win – her sixth straight victory – over Neharika Rama.

Way teamed with freshman India Shiaelis at No. 3 doubles, posting a pair of victories and improving to 3-0 as a tandem this season.

Louisiana will return to action on Friday as it faces Sun Belt Conference foe UTA in Arlington, Texas. The Ragin’ Cajuns will wrap up the regular-season on Saturday (April 8) against ULM.
