Ragin’ Cajuns Wrap Up At ITA Southern Regional Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Freshman Lucile Delabarre reached the quarterfinals of the "B" Singles Main Draw while freshman Marina Rodriguez Garcia reached the semifinals of the "B" Singles Consolation Draw to help pace the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team at the 2016 ITA Southern Regional Championships that concluded Sunday at the University of Alabama.
Delabarre opened play with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Claudia Castella of Southern Miss before dropping a 7-6 (4), 6-1 decision to ULM’s Ioana Popescu in the quarterfinals. Garcia, who dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match to USM’s Tjasa Jerse in the main draw, opened play in the consolation bracket with a 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 win over Clem Krug of Nicholls State. After earning a walkover victory over Reahan Lynch of UAB, Garcia fell in the semifinals to Louisiana Tech’s Sonia Chen, 6-2, 6-0.
Elena Sava opened play in the "A" Singles Draw falling to Alabama’s Smith Hinton, 6-2, 6-4, before dropping a 6-2, 6-1 match to Sanae Ohta of Troy in the consolation draw.
Louisiana will wrap up the fall schedule Nov. 5-6 when it competes in the George E. Fourmaux Invitational, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University.
