Women’s Tennis: Louisiana Snags First Conference Win With 5-2 Victory Over Georgia State

LAFAYETTE – On a chilly Saturday morning at Cajun Courts, Louisiana Women’s Tennis (6-7, 1-1 SBC) notched its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season with a, 5-2 win over Georgia State (3-8, 0-1 SBC), to finish with a split of its conference opening weekend.

Sophomore Floriane Picaut, who won her second straight match, clinched the win for Louisiana at No. 1 singles.  While fellow sophomore Dana Radovanovic fought back to win her match at No. 2 to give Louisiana a pair of wins in doubles

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Due to Georgia State not having a full lineup, Louisiana started the match off with a 1-0 lead, with the Panthers forfeiting the doubles point.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Much like in doubles, Georgia State had to forfeit the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 to give Louisiana a commanding 3-0 lead. At No .1 singles, Picaut clinched the match for Louisiana, when she took down Eva Chivu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Louisiana’s next win at singles, came at No. 2 when Radovanovic, who took down Daniela Ramirez. Radovanovic had to earn her win, after dropping the second set, through a super tie-breaker, and the Louisiana Frenchwoman held off Ramirez to win the three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (4).

The wins from Radovanovic and Picaut gave Louisiana the 5-2 win, to snap a four-match losing streak and get its first conference win of the season.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana will continue conference play next weekend, when the Ragin’ Cajuns hit the road for the Texas swing starting with Texas State (Mar. 23) and they will wrap up the weekend at UT Arlington (Mar. 24).
